Minerals in Georgia WebQuest

Introduction:  Georgia is a state rich in natural resources.  One of those resources is the variety of minerals that abound in the state.  From gold in the mountains to titanium near the Okeefenokee and the Kaolin belt in middle Georgia, the state contains a wealth of minerals.  This webquest will help you discover some of those resources.

Task:   You have been appointed by the governor to make a map of mineral resources in Georgia and to outline a brochure which presents a summary of mineral resources in Georgia.

Process:

1.  Use the resources below to find your information about minerals in Georgia.  You are going to label a map and outline a brochure.  Use your class time wisely for the brochure and make it as neat as you can.

2.  Browse through the resources first to get an idea of what is there.  You are going to label some major mining areas of Georgia on the map.  Look for resources to help you there.  Some sources may tell you that minerals are found in a certain county or town.  Mark these on the map provided (also available on the link below).  Your map should have 10 mineral mining areas identified on it as accurately as possible.

3.  Outline your brochure.  You should have a tri-fold brochure.  Sketch a design for the cover of the brochure and label the three panels on the inside of the brochure.  You should outline a panel for a different mineral.  Each panel should contain information about the mineral, where it is found, possibly when it was first found, how it is obtained and what it's economic value is.

4.  Once you have finished these two tasks you can turn them in.  We will have 4 session in the computer lab to work on this assignment.
